  4. Overview.
  5. ---------
  6.    Mousey is a simple mouse pointer changer for OS/2** 2.1.  With it, you can
  7. change any of the standard pointers (such as the arrow and clock) to any
  8. pointer created in the IconEditor which ships with OS/2 2.1.
  9.  
  10.    This unregistered copy of Mousey allows you to change the pointer only
  11. while Mousey is open.  When Mousey is closed, it will reset the pointer to
  12. the OS/2 defaults.  The registered version of Mousey allows you to keep the
  13. pointer changed without keeping Mousey open.  It also doesn't annoy you
  14. about registering.

  17. Registering.
  18. ------------
  19.    Mousey is not freeware or public domain.  It is shareware.  This means that
  20. you may use Mousey for a two week trial period before you decide if you want
  21. to register (purchase) it or not.  If you continue to use the product
  22. without registering it, you are breaking the law.
  23.  
  24.    When you register Mousey you will receive the following:
  25.  
  26.        *  A letter of appreciation.
  27.        *  The latest registered version on disk.
  28.        *  A copy of my collection of pointers (over 50).
  29.        *  Notices of upgrades afterward.
  30.  
  31.    Registered copies of Mousey include the following the extra features:
  32.  
  33.        *  Change not just the standard arrow, but also the text pointer
  34.           (I-bar), the wait pointer (clock), the move pointer (arrows in
  35.           all directions), and all of the size pointers.
  36.        *  Use custom pointers even when Mousey isn't running.
  37.        *  Changes are saved between system reboots.
  38.        *  No annoying messages about registering.

  40.    Registering Mousey is currently $15 U.S.  To register, print a copy of
  41. the file ORDER.TXT and fill it out.  Enclose the required fee in an
  42. enveloped addressed to me (see below) and wait for your registered copy
  43. to be delivered (should be two-three weeks).

  46. Notes.
  47. ------
  48.    If I find that there is interest in the program (i.e. many people register),
  49. I will work on incorporating the following features into Mousey:
  50.  
  51.        *  Replace the filename listbox with a collection of icons so you can
  52.           select your pointer by icon instead of filename.
  53.        *  Animation support.
  54.        *  Custom pointers for each application.
  55.  
  56.    If you have any ideas for additions to Mousey (or for pointers), please
  57. send them to me.  Please see the end of this document for ways to reach me.

  59.    All of the pointers that come with Mousey were created by me, the author
  60. of Mousey.  Please feel free to edit them and add some artistic talent to
  61. them (which I think they currently lack).

  63.    When creating your own pointers or editting those that come with Mousey,
  64. pay special attention to where the hot spot is.  This is the point on the
  65. pointer that OS/2 uses to report the mouse position.  On the standard
  66. arrow, the hot spot is the tip of the arrow (which makes sense).  On my
  67. chicken head (CHICKEN.PTR), it is the tip of the beak.  To change the hot
  68. spot of a pointer in the Icon Editor, select Options->HotSpot from the
  69. menu or press Alt-K.  Click the mouse pointer on the drawing space where
  70. you want the hot spot, and then reselect Options->HotSpot or press Alt-K.

  73. Trouble Shooting.
  74. -----------------
  75. Problem:  I can't get the mouse cursor to change.
  76. Answer:  Mousey requires OS/2 2.1.  Any version before that (including
  77. beta versions) is unsupported.
  78.  
  79. Problem:  I can't select any of the options on the Pointers menu.
  80. Answer:  To change any of the mouse pointers except for the standard arrow,
  81. you must register Mousey.  Unregistered copies of Mousey disable the other
  82. menu items.

  84. Problem:  Mousey makes the mouse disappear on my XGA system.
  85. Answer:  I have a report about this from one beta user.  He stated that
  86. the mouse cursor could be brought back with rapid mouse movement.  However,
  87. because it only happens on XGA systems, I believe the problem is in the OS/2
  88. XGA driver.  I don't recommend using Mousey on XGA systems because of this
  89. problem.
